Reviewed by: dandan Date: 03/08/2006 Summary: hurrah! for sylvia chang well, i enjoyed this quite a lot. it's a film that never really tries to be anything else, but a nice tale of a family who are both individuals and a single unit. sometimes it's a touch too nice, but it's overall charm means that it usually gets away with it. i do love martin yan, and i liked the amusing pun / reference to 'yan can cook'... it's not a great film, it's just a nice easy watching story, that's presented and executed well.

Reviewed by: evirei Date: 07/25/2005 I still remember this phrase, " If YAN can cook, so can you". Yeap... but I never expect some guy who teaches people how to cook to act in a movie. The movie is basically about a single mother with his 3 sons. Sylvia is a mother to 3 boys who owns a hainanese chicken rice shop. She has this problem with her childrens which she gets help from Martin. Slyvia's elder son is a gay and that makes sylvia worried that her younger son will follow his elder son footstep. She is so happy to hear that a foreign exchange student is to come and stay in her house and she has been finding ways and excuses to get his son to go out and date the foerign exchange student. Life is getting harder when Martin invents a new receipe and Sylvia feels threaten by it. The only fault I could find in the movie is, it's too draggy and most of the acts are unnatural and wooden.
