Deadly Roulette

Summary: So bad it's kind of funny...

When I dug a little deeper, I was really hoping to find that this was Lo Lieh's first time at directing, but I disappointed to found it was his third. Deadly Roulette is a classically bad 70's Hong Kong crime drama with poor acting and an even worse script. With the multiple use of the same set and major stock footage, I really hope the budget for this film had was under $1000. Every cliche in the book is used and the only thing that made it tolerable was the dubbing on the version I saw, adding some unintentional humor to the otherwise insipid plot. Some praises should go to the kicking ability of Bobby Kim, whose Tae Kwon Do skills look to be top notch. The soundtrack is pretty funky as well, with lots of keyboards, flutes and tam tam drums throughout. At one point (although surely without legal permission), the Beatles' "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" is played in full. If you want to witness some horrible dialouge, cheesy love scenes, a few roundhouse kicks and what parts of Hong Kong in the mid-70s looked like, go right ahead and watch this film. Otherwise don't waste your time.
