Summary: the return of chou and beethoven...

philip chan reprises his role as chou (richard ng) and beethoven's (john shum) boss, whilst taking over the directorial duties as well. the second film in this series, starts with chou and anna (deannie yip) getting married, but the ceremony is disturbed and our two hapless heroes are called off to thwart a suicide attempt. after initial success, the two get transferred to the department of the nasty inspector tien (james tien), beethoven gets evicted and has to move in with the newlyweds and inspector chan gets set up by a criminal he busted 15 years ago: can chou and beethoven save the day?

the same mix of physical slapstick, situation comedy and a little bit of romance and action, that made the first film so much fun, make 'the return of pom pom' equally entertaining. lam ching-ying and the lovely kara hui turn up in supporting roles and add an extra dimension to the film.

good fun stuff...

Return of Pom Pom(1984) This sequel has some funny moments(especially the sign language scene that Shum and Ng engage into to excuse themselves from Ng's wife) and the crazy brawl between Shum, Ng, Philip Chan Yan Kin, and Lam Ching Ying, but thes emomoents are too
little and far apart to hold the movie together. Like part 1, as this movie is full of comedic skits and has a hard time sticking with the story, and worse this movie is even more skittish than the original. Besides the sign language scene and the brawl, most of the comedy doesn't work and the 80's cut love theme takes up at least a half hour of the movie. Just watch this movie fopr the beginning and the ending. A light weight comedy, worth one viewing and repeated viewing if you just skip to the funny scenes that
+work. **/*****

Summary: VERY FUNNY

Not as good as the orignal, but still plenty of laughs. The same cast are back to get into more trouble. This time RIchard Ng is married to Deannie Yip, and has him under her foot as it were!

Rating: (out of 5) 3.5

The movie starts off with two groups fighting over asecret list (any of these old movies that start off with people fighting usually are great). Well, one of the people gets hurt by a special blow and now his fellow disciples want to get this one guy to help him. This poor guy just wants to be alone with his love interest (don't think that's gonna happen). What does happen is non-stop fighting along with surprises and double crosses. This movie is definitely action packed. There is not a slow second. I highly recommend it. (BTW, the movie does not make a lot of sense until the end when everything is tied together).
