Summary: Very Likable Fantasy

This entertaining fantasy is a clever parody of the popular A Chinese Ghost Story. Directed by, co-written and co-starring the under appreciated Wu Ma, this movie quickly grabs you up in it's story and carries you for a glorious journey. In the 70's, Wu Ma co-directed several films with master filmmaker Chang Cheh. Joey Wong is a beautiful ghost, basically doing the same part she did in A Chinese Ghost Story. Martials arts action is wild with Yuen Biao flipping and flying all over the place. If you can't like this movie, you are dead from the neck up.

A film that at a first look is very good, but deep down it’s just another Chinese Ghost Story, only not as interesting.

Even Joey Wong doesn’t do much to spice the film up, leaving very little to recommend. For people who can’t get enough of the Chinese Ghost Story films, then this would be one to see. Otherwise, you’ll do well to miss it.

Summary: Pretty good

This is like a poorer version of A CHINESE GHOST STORY but good enough to watch!! Yuen Biao and Lawerence Ng do well in their roles but the end fight was disappointing. IT just goes a bit overboard!!

I really liked "Hua4 Zhong1 Xian1". It's basically a clone of Qian4 Nu3 You1 Hun2 (A Chinese Ghost Story), but a good one in my opinion. Yuan Biao plays a young warrior; he and his teacher help the male scholar / female ghost couple. I especially liked Yuan Biao's character in the movie. The movie was probably made around 1988 or 1989.

This is definitly one of the most entertaining but also wackiest clones of ACGS. First of all, the acting and the production values are impressive. Yuen Biao makes a great leading man and the etheral Joey Wong is at her teary-eyed best. The female demon is also a beauty to behold (although she is prone to plucking her eyes out of her skull). But there's more: the demon's cronies are white-faced, screeching devils, holding umbrellas and flying in a centipede formation (!). We also get cute animated paper cranes, a musical number and great visual FX. The bitter-sweet ending even gives the whole movie some dramatic resonance.
