Summary: 20th Anniversary review

Inspector Wears Skirts IV (1992) is a madcap romp for Cynthia Khan, Moon Lee, Sandra Ng, and Kara Hui in this action comedy film. One of Hong Kong's many versions of the Hollywood Police Academy films, director Wellson Chin returns to helm the 3rd sequel to the series he originated back in 1988. If you are new to Hong Kong cinema, this probably should not be your first foray into this very provincial art-form. Much of the humor is based on language nuance and slang. Some great and clever action scenes by Alan Chui [Haunted Karaoke 1997] are blended in with the spoof comedy sections that keeps the film moving. Mr. Chin went on to serve as Executive Director on Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle [2004] and CJ7 [2008].

The goofiest of the ITLOD spinoffs I've seen. Has some goodscenes, incl. spoofs of the Wong Fei Hung movies, drunken boxing, and the "bus chase" scene from Police Story.

This absurd Hong Kong version of "Police Academy" is a severe endurance test for even the most die-hard Cynthia Khan and Moon Lee fans. Its one saving grace is getting to see an all-star cast of Asian beauties parading around in cute S.W.A.T. uniforms. Cynthia Khan is a hard-nosed drill sergeant in charge of a bunch of misfit bumbling cops including Moon Lee, Sandra Ng, and a slightly deranged Wei Ying Hung. The film relies almost entirely on slapstick, sight gags, and verbal humor, but there are about three fight scenes that are surprisingly good, considering the overall comedic tone of the film. Highlights include parodies of Bruce Lee, Wong Fei Hung, and Jackie Chan's "Police Story".
