Reviewed by: mrblue Date: 06/23/2010 It's pretty a pretty well-known Hong Kong film fact that Danny Lee has made a career out of playing cops, and is a staunch defender of the HK police department, to the point where his nickname is "Lee Sir", or "Officer Lee". So it begs the question as to why his 1995 movie Twist paints the police in such a repellent light. Despite the moral qualms of the film and the high and exploitative level of violence, this is still an interesting take on the usual HK cops and robbers fare that's worth a look if you have a stomach for the stronger stuff. Suki did an amazing performance in this bitchy role. She was being tortured to badly and yet maintain the gorgeous style and look.

Reviewed by: hkcinema Date: 12/08/1999 Twist has the same feel as Organised Crime and Triad Bureau, only it's a hell of a lot more enjoyable, this is mostly due to Danny Lee's interesting touches in his direction, and the always likeable Simon Yam. Remember Danny Lee directed Dr. Lamb and Untold Story so you should know what to expect (Dr. Lamb was not his directing debut as Asian Trash would have you know, he directed some god-awful movies before that) Twist is loosely based on a true story, and when I say loosely I mean it, this is set in Hong Kong but in reality it all happened in China. After an opening where Simon Yam and two sidekicks rob an armoured van we are taken on a ride with Danny Lee and his team (yeah the same cop team he always has) trying to crack the case. Simon Yam knows the police are getting close but he doesn't seem to mind, his character is so obnoxious he thinks he will get away with what ever he does. When he is finally caught, the cops torture the truth out of him and his girlfriend, where these scenes should have shocked they are more played for laughs. At one stage Simon Yam gets a hose shoved in his ass and the water turned on, while his stomach expands he cries out that he wants more. This is the one thing Danny Lee does not pull off, when he should aim to shock he instead tries to excite with the camera leering at the girls breasts as she is tortured. Its no masterpiece but its still great entertainment, the pace never lets up and you won't find yourself getting bored so get a hold of it now. [Reviewed by BDC]
