Girl with the Diamond Slipper (1985)

Summary: Early Wong Jing/Maggie Cheung vehicle
Maggie is an aspiring actress who gets into hot water when the shoes she purchased for a party (where she meets a handsome rich guy) has a hidden diamond in it. Nat Chan likes Maggie (but her roomate is after him), but he and his friend (Wong Jing) are trying to get the diamond. However some thugs are also trying to get their hands on it, and the cops are tailing them...

This is an early film by director Wong Jing for Shaw Brothers and it's a strange spin on Cinderella--sort of. A girl trying to make it big, meets a handsome prince. Then throw in absurdities like thieves, thugs who like to torture people with inventions like the "ya ya seesaw," a hidden villain and a cop. Add in some Kung Fu for the finale and what do you have? Not much, but it's good for a chuckle or two. Maggie is real cute in the movie, Nat Chan is a goofball and Wong Jing is annoying as usual. Good for people who want to see Maggie or Wong's early work. Both would go on to better things--well Maggie mostly and Wong secondly.
