Summary: black rose or white rose???
micky (simon yam) has just escaped from prison and is heading straight for pearl (carina lau), his ex-girlfriend who is in unknowingly in possession of a valuable gem that he stole. keith (tony leung ka-fai) is a bumbling cop, who decides to move in next door to pearl, hoping to catch micky and recover the gem. in order to do this, he turfs her womanising amnesiac neighbour out of his flat, only to be landed with beauty (veronica yip), an ex-lover ofthe aforementioned neighbour. meanwhile, leung (kenny bee), keith's overly competetive partner, decides to pose as an illegal immigrant who pearl takes pity on. micky turns up to claim back the gem, but so does the mysterious white rose and black rose, two female robbers, who's who, are the two cops falling in love and who's going to end up with the gem?

this is a hong kong comedy that's a whole lot of fun; big tony leung is on fine form as the unlucky campy cop, veronica yip is great and smoulders as the suicidal housemate and kenny bee should win an award for his comedy limp. most of the jokes hit the spot, the random bursts of song are suprisingly effective and fight scenes, although not technically outstanding, are carried off with a great sense of fun.

a very entertaining slice of hong kong comedy indeed...
