Pom Pom Strikes Back! (1986)

Pom Pom Strikes Back! is a typical entry in the series, which stars Richard Ng (Ah Chou) and John Shum (Beethoven) as bumbling police officers who manage to save the day despite themselves.

Ah Chou and Beethoven are assigned to protect a teenage witness (May Lo) against killers sent by an international gangster, while Ah Chou's wife (Deannie Yip) is sent to transport the defendant to Hong Kong for trial. The girl is oblivious to the dangers that she faces and is looking to duck her guards and have fun, while Ah Chou is looking to take advantage of his wife's absence, and Beethoven has several opportunities to display his kung fu "skills." A medical error leads Ah Chou to recklessly expose himself to danger, but the boys prevail in the end, of course.

Richard Ng and John Shum are funny as usual, Deannie Yip again gamely plays the grown up supervising two big kids, and May Lo is cute as the girl in peril.

Pom Pom Strikes Back! doesn't break any new ground, but anyone who enjoyed the previous movies in the series should like this one too.
