Ruthless gangster Shing Fui-On pulls off a daring and violentheist of diamonds and enlists the aid of longtime triad Chan Wai-Man to arrange a buyer for them. But when Shing double crosses the buyer, Chan ends up with the diamonds, wanted by both the cops and Shing. Burnt-out undercover cop Stephen Chow is given one last assignment, to get close to Chan and get information regarding the whereabouts of the diamonds. Stephen finds that Chan isn't as bad as he thought, and Chan comes to find Stephen is the only person he can trust. It's the standard setup where the undercover cop gets too close to his target, but Chan and Chow have suprisingly good chemistry, making the film very watchable. Actually, it's just nice to see Chow Wai-Man given such a meaty role, since this under-appreciated actor is too often relegated to brief character roles. Stephen is in dramatic mode here, but he still delivers his lines with the occassional comedic punch.
