Summary: Too long in a short movie.
"Cold War" had less than a few exciting moments for the audience. The story itself was fine but the direction of the movie is totally out of hand.

The movie started in an unnecessary introduction which leads to nothing much related to the rest of the story. Later, we follow the track of Simon Yam as an assassin and find out what's the main plot is about (that's when we arrived Seoul). What we got here in this movie is a simple plot with no twist involved. Yet the movie was categorized as "Crime" but I think "Drama"/"Action" as the genre would be more appropriate. Although we only seen a few bullet ballet moments here may interested some action fans but there is nothing much enjoyable besides that. Moreover, there are many moments in the movie which are bored to watch. I don't know whether it's a tactic by the director to slow things down during the movie, however, for sure that didn't excited me and I think the director had put too much "slow-down" moments here. As a result, leaving the movie too long to finish though with only a simple story to tell.

As for the performances, Simon Yam an assassin and he acted a very cool character in which the director had found the appropriate actor for that. As to Christy Chung, she was acted with her standard and it was fine, however, her role could be any other actresses since her character was gone after half way through the movie. For the bad side, there are a few characters in the movie could have developed for audience's understanding but the director failed to do so. For example, Kinko in the movie played a big part of the story but the director didn't show us what she was thinking and why she thinked that way. Also, we were introduced to the police-partner relationship but the director also failed to develope more about it before the relation was lost.

Overall, the movie was not enjoyable as it could have been. I personally would not recommand it unless Simon Yam is the only thing to watch in this boring movie. There are too much boring parts in the movie when it could have been a faster and exciting story to tell us.
