Picture of a Nymph (1988)

This is definitly one of the most entertaining but also wackiest clones of ACGS. First of all, the acting and the production values are impressive. Yuen Biao makes a great leading man and the etheral Joey Wong is at her teary-eyed best. The female demon is also a beauty to behold (although she is prone to plucking her eyes out of her skull). But there's more: the demon's cronies are white-faced, screeching devils, holding umbrellas and flying in a centipede formation (!). We also get cute animated paper cranes, a musical number and great visual FX. The bitter-sweet ending even gives the whole movie some dramatic resonance.

(8/10)
