Underground Judgement (1994)

Summary: Not much Amy, but .........
With veteran action man Raymond Lui writing and directing, and apparently a few of his family in the crew, you'd expect loads of well-choreographed action. Well, things take awhile to warm up. The story and the fight scenes are pretty sloppy, and more annoying than anything else, for about the first 1/3 of this film.

Things start coming together after that. Not that the story becomes any more plausible, but the acting improves a bit, and the action scenes improve dramatically.

If you're watching this one for Amy, you'll probably be disappointed yet again. However, seasoned Amy fans should be used to this ! She is given equal top billing, but appears for only about seven minutes. If ever the Trade Practices Act were applied to HK film, and made retrospective, the producers of all but about three of La Amy's film would be in serious trouble ! The one consolation is that this film provides the only EVER glimpse of the top of just one of Amy's lovely aureolae (that's the dark circle surrounding the nipple, guys !), which is the closest Amy ever came to showing her nipples on screen.

The big surprise is Tong Chun Chung. As far as I can tell, this guy is Ken Tong's younger brother. They share the same first two names, and look remarkably alike. Though TongCC is nowhere near as busy an actor as Ken, he seems to be stuck in the same groove - lead roles in cheapo films and supports in a few larger ones. But TongCC is just great here. It's certainly the best performance I've seen him give, and he is really the star of this film.

Various other characters float in and out of the story. Waise Lee is more or less a guest star, Amy's part is barely more than a cameo. The lovely Yiu Ching Ching gets a decent amount of screen time, but unfortunately and once again proves she can't act. The terrific old sleaze Gam Biu provides a nice touch in his small role as a corrupt official helping Chau. And there are a raft of uncredited actors making up the remainder.

Grit your teeth through the first onje-third and the many holes in the script, turn your brain off if possible, and enjoy.
