Crossings (1994)

Summary: Pretty bad
Crossings, or 'Choh Oi' in Cantonese suggests the obvious is you understand Chinese...it has a lot to do with prostitutes. A movie done plenty of times before, but set at a more serious pace. A drama set and shot in New York, it is the story of a woman (Anita Yuen) who has come from Hong Kong to find her 'boyfriend' (Simon Yam) but, a lot more is going on with him that she doesn't know about. An American man who is fascinated with Asian women also has a lot to do in this movie, as he tries to be with Chinese women, prostitutes.

It is a strange story, and very strange to watch. I don't particularly like it, but it is worth watching, but don't go searching hard for it. Evans Chan has also cast a Eurasian as a main character showing the different lifestyles of Chinese living in America. I don't think it was shot in sync-sound, but it was clearly meant to look and sound like it was.

I found Simon Yam extreamly annoying, and really didn't like his role. Anita Yuen played very well, although I don't think she was the best actress to be used in this film. The westerner (whoever he was) was very annoying indeed, and his treatment of people was very bad, just a reminder I suppose that there are a lot of people like that.
