Rock N'Roll Cop (1994)

Anthony Wong is Inspector Hung, a Kowloon police officer teaming with Shenzhen Captain Wong Kun. Hung is laid back, clad in black, goateed, and plays the guitar. Wong Kun is rather stiff, with suit and tie and well combed hair. They team up to apprehend migrant criminal, Yu Rong-Guo. With the then oncoming 1997 takeover of Hong Kong by China, this movie attempts to preach the anticipated merging of two different worlds. Anthony Wong is playing one of his rare good guy roles and is actually quite charming, and Wu Xing Guo is .. well, stiff. Though the story is familiar, it is structured well and the suspense and drama is kept on a high level. There still tends to be an overall melancholy mood to this movie but the kinetic finale quite makes up for it.
