Love Undercover 2: Love Mission (2003)

Summary: kinda weak sequel
I enjoyed the first Love Undercover, it wasn't fantastic but it was funny and had some chemistry.

This one is pretty weak in comparison. Even compared to some of Miriam's other movies (Dry Wood Fierce Fire, etc), she just isn't that engaging (more annoying then anything else, the bumbling, whiny girl just isn't working!)

I have to say Daniel Wu's comedy skills seem to be developing a bit since Beauty and the Breast and the first Love Undercover. But a few funny situations don't make up for the incredibly convoluted story line, random useless subplots (the old guys, Chiang Yi's character, etc) and unfunny jokes. (I will qualify this statement by noting that its probably a lot funnier in Cantonese...)

It does have a few allusions to other HK movies that I recognized (and probably a bunch I didn't), the police negotiator's scene in the beginning is a lift off of Running Out of Time and there's a Killer homage of sorts as well.

ps - worst part was I had to buy the 2 DVD set to get this one... cost me HK$69!
