The Adventurers (1995)

Summary: Not Horrible
Ringo Lam's The Adventurers is an ok at best revenge story. Nothing special but nothing really terrible either. Although I really liked the ending.

The plot is something we've seen from Mr. Lam before. That is the "man on a mission" story. He's done it better before too. Does Andy Lau's character love the villain's daughter or girlfriend? His character seemed weak to me. For a man hell-bent on revenge he seemed to fall for the female characters too easily.

Andy Lau's work has become legendary as of late. Here we see him while he still is unpolished. I see sparks of acting skill but overall it wasn't a great performance for him. Rosamond Kwan was great & showed some range by playing a role which was very different than which we are used to seeing her in. Wu Chien Lien is good with what little she was given to work with and looks simply delectable as usual.

Not much action until towards the end. That action seemed gratuitous as well. There seemed to be explosions and gunfire just for the hell of it and it really came off as being out of place here.

An average film overall with an ending I didn't expect but was believable. If you need something to watch this will do in a pinch.
