By the way, it's good to see Jackie finally letting down that bullshit facade he's so carefully crafted over the years!

Well, I don't think his reputation was that great off camera despite those efforts. It seems he's made a play of some sort on each of his female costars over the years. Though, I guess the same can be said for Stephen Chow and Zhang Yimou and probably a lot others. You can't knock his charity efforts though. At the core, he's a self-made star, rough on the edges but with a big heart. This stuff like the concert is embarrassing but he's earned a little slack.

Exactly. He's definitely charitable. A Chinese old age home he funded is among the best in Toronto. Honestly, I do admire his long climb to the top, but I guess his offscreen reputation is well-known enough that I just chafe whenever I see him doing TV appearances (mostly in English, but even a few in Chinese) where he peddles the same old manufactured Chan-tasticness, and I realize that a great percentage of people who are aware of him are aware of that version of him only. But to be honest, MOST celebrities are like that. For every person who knows their darker side, there are probably five who don't. I guess the PR people can't keep them in check all the time, as the Chan incident proves. No doubts here that he'll be forgiven.

I suppose Elaine Ng might have found the whole thing amusing...

I see that "Ann Lee" has cast the female lead for "Lust, Caution." This sex change isn't connected to "Brokeback Mountain" is it?

and, on the jury is...

kbs global wrote:Film Director Park Chan-wook to Judge at 63rd Venice Film Festival

Film director Park Chan-wook has been named a juror for the 63rd Venice Film Festival slated for August 30 through September 9.

Other jurors include Spanish film director Juan Jose Bigas Luna, Portuguese producer Paolo Paulo Blanco, American film director/scriptwriter Cameron Crowe, Russian actress Chulpan Khamatova and Italian film director/actor Michele Placido. Headed by actress Catherine Deneuve, who was appointed last month, the jury will choose the winners of the festival’s awards.

South Korean filmmakers and actors have been named jurors of the top-three international film festivals this year, including actress Lee Young-ae, who judged at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival in February.

Park won the Cinema of the Future Award, the Young Lion Award and the Best Innovation Award at last year’s Venice festival for his movie “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.”
