Can some of these threads be moved to regular forums?

I guess this is mainly a question for Bob, but frequently Dennis' news items prompt some very lively discussion that I think would continue were they moved or split off of duplicated (perhaps AFTER they've garnered a solid discussion in a single direction) to appropriate forums, so that those who don't regularly bother with the news updates can chime in on topics that have grown out of them nonetheless.

I guess I'm wondering if a news update thread that results in a long trail of discussion can't be retitled, have unrelated news links removed from Dennis' initial post, and be moved to the apropriate discussion forum to further the discussion in a particular direction. There have been some good ones here, but outside of four or five regular respondents (myself included) I'm not sure everyone sees what we're talking about!

Just a thought! Feel free to put me in my place!

You could start with this one from today, retitled to a dicsussion on China's policies to outside animation or some such:

(and yes, I'm picking one's I'm in because I seem to spout off on just about anything, really! But there are probably others)

or this one, retitled to the Rape of Nanjing theme:
http://hkmdb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=44986

or this one, retitled to the Olympic mascot theme:
http://hkmdb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=44940

or this one, retitled to a discussion on the creepiness of cosplay and the Society for Creative Anachronism :P
http://hkmdb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=44888

or this one, retitled to discuss Miami Vice and Gong Li (a bit late, though)

Well, that would probably mean more extra work for Bob to maintain.

Personally, I think it's okay to leave it as is within the news thread or else start a separate thread in the existing news forum, or start it in another forum, as long as people use the quotes citation as you do. Myself, I tend to be short-winded and skew towards the terse side of the spectrum.

I know. I was kinda thinking along those lines myself. Don't want to create more work than it's probably worth. I can rant in here just as well! :P

I guess if some discussion was truly earth-shattering, I'd probably restart the conversation in another thread myself...maybe... ;)

Amen bro'

I discussed this with Dennis a bit already. I am planning to (likely) put Dennis' stuff right on the front page.

A lot of changes coming up, all around....more on that soon.
