Delay No Mall opening
Thursday night was the grand opening of the Delay No Mall in Causeway Bay. The event also featured the album release and mini-concert of the local group 24 Herbs. Packed with trend-setters of all different stripes, the night was an important step in introducing the new shopping center...

Two fashion notes:

The Lucy Liu outfit, including the cloak, is by Valentino. She wore it to Valentino's last show. I think she looks great and is one of those who is able to carry off such an outrageous look.

Does Edison Chen know what the slogan on his hat is?

Probably. He's Canadian and speaks fluent English. I'm so proud.

Strange thing to wear to a public function. Maybe someone handed him the cap just before the shot and he didn't read it. Seems like an anti-counterfit slogan--the MPAA and RIAA can get behind it.

Possibly, but that slogan is in keeping with the "street" image peddled by his clothing company, Clot. Probably is some kind of anti-piracy thing, and I'm not sure how hard he's 'fucking the fakeshit', really, since you can find quite a few Clot clones here in Toronto!

Thankfully, he's ended his old blog, but he's simply relocated to the Clot site, where he can continue to rub the noses of his followers in his monied fantasticness, a'ight!

Edison is a wonderment. He doesn't strike you as very bright, yet at the same time he has real keen business savvy. And he seems very proud to display his materialism to you on his blog with no shame at all.

I can give the guy credit for his part in building that brand, and in perpetuating it's influence on pop culture design in Hong Kong and China, but I agree with you, I really don't think he's that bright. He probably doesn't need to be in today's world, either, so long as he keeps his looks. As the "face" of the company, he's done alright positioning himself more prominently in the zeitgeist than a lot of his (far more talented) industry peers. But the shameless materialism is a bit much, especially when it stems from stuff he undoubtedly gets for free. While I joke about his rubbing the noses of his followers and customers in all his swag (free or paid for), perhaps in Hong Kong it's actually considered inspiring!

And who knows, maybe the guy gives more to charity than Bill Gates! But regardless, one can only hope he's thankful every day that he was "discovered" because without that, he wouldn't be anywhere near where he is today.

(It's funny, when I look at all that silly loot on his blogs, I can't help but think back to a TMZ item a few weeks ago showing assorted celebrities showing up at some rented Hollywood storefront to pick up their swag bags after the Golden Globe awards were cancelled (I guess they'd normally receive them much more discreetly). Despite the bags containing thousands of dollars worth of Big Name designer goods, I felt kinda sorry for them having to run the papparazzi gauntlet to get their "rewards." I guess Edison's still lucky enough that it comes to him instead, but from the sounds of his blog entries, he'd light his head on fire and put it out with a hammer to get a Vuitton knick-knack)

TMZ, another of my guilty pleasures. I saw that item, too. The stars (and their assistant's?) were practically limping down the street they were so weighed down by bags of loot/swag/gifts. No, I didn't feel sorry for them. Unlike Gloria Swanson, the pictures got small AND the stars got smaller.
