Ang Lee has no love for 'Canadian values' bill, but plenty for Vancouver
"I want to make a movie where Canadians win, not always Americans."
He expressed disillusionment with the lack of attention span of American audiences, noting important 10-minute scenes have to be lost for that reason.

China’s Loyal Youth

A very interesting article considering the protests around Tibet and the recent call for a boycott of foreign goods in China.

While support from Lee and other 'outsiders' will no doubt aid the cause, it's still a little disheartening that Canada's homegrown talent might not be strong enough to do this on their own. Not that they haven't tried . . .

The bureaucrats have tried to argue that virtually nothing that has been made or released in the country to date would have been denied funding under the new legislation—and there've been some fairly controversial projects done here—but the whole thing opens up some ugly possibilities. Funny this stuff usually comes to the fore whenever a conservative government is in power here (which thankfully is much more rare than it is in, say, the U.S.)

Mind you, when I think of how many shitty Sci-Fi Channel movies my tax dollars have funded, I can almost see the point . . .

South Korean astronaut OK after rough landing

Just the idea of a "ballistic landing" is frightening enough but for it to become as commonplace as it makes taking off in a Soyuz an act of heroism. I recall her comment from the interview a few weeks ago in which she said the Kazakhstan space port was like a junk yard.

My pop culture radar has totally failed. Here is a sequel to a movie that was released two years ago that I haven't even heard of.

Interesting reading. This article almost makes a good Part 2 as far as the unwitting indoctrination of students is concerned:

Thanks, I missed this one.

Boy, he just doesn't quit does he? Dennis Law must have deep pockets to put on these productions. Despite tepid reviews on his two previous shows, somehow, he manages to continue on.

Sooner or later, he's bound to have a hit on his hands! Maybe ZU: THE MAGIC WARRIORS OF BROADWAY! I guess there's no accounting for taste . . . or something, but it sounds like you get an eyeful when you get a ticket, if nothing else. The new theatre they write about is supposed to be state-of-the-art, and since the population in the area (which is where I work), is majority Chinese, I suppose there could be an audience for another Law spectacle. I thought I read somewhere that the other shows were money drains, so hopefully Law has his smart money invested elsewhere, and he just does these shows for kicks using accumulated interest!
