John Woo: bootlegging digital effects?
http://www.hecaitou.net/?p=3193

Zack Snyder's 300 on top; Woo's RED CLIFF on the bottom. :?

Still pumped to see this movie, but this is an . . . interesting development if true.

This issue surfaced before the premiere. In Woo's defense, I think it refers to a promotional poster and not the film itself. I can't find the original story I saw but dug these up:

Chinese netizens have become especially skillful in detecting doctored photographs these days. A couple recent targets: the South China tiger, the Tibetan railway/running antelopes. Then there was the Sichuan memorial to victims that 'borrowed' photos of living persons from online websites.

Ahh, that makes a little more sense. I'm sure "art theft" like that has occurred before, both here and in China, but it always strikes me as a little sad knowing that there are plenty of artists/photographers who could have done a more legit job on a poster like that. Considering the areas in question are relatively small in the overall composition, it just seems pointless, as though they could have found plenty of other examples of use from on-set photography etc.

Knew about the tiger photo, but the elk one was quite interesting. :?
