I was about to go all un-British with excitement when I saw A Touch of Zen and Dragon Inn on that list, but on further inspection they appear to be unsubbed in English and full screen. Damn! So close and yet so far!

According to recent reports, most of the releases *have* English subs, will check for you the specs from someone I know who has them...

Yeah they're letterboxed 4:3, I'm told, with optional English subs.

Letterboxed 4:3? I don't follow...? Thanks for the info though!

Spannick at ADVG reports that they are letterboxed and have optional or burned in English subs!!! And some with CD soundtracks, too. :D

Screen caps.

Thanks guys. I have ordered those two and will come back here when they've arrived and let you know what's what. But if Touch of Zen is remastered, widescreen and with English subs, I'm going to be one happy bunny :D .

I think they mean the video is non-anamorphic and is instead letterboxed 4:3 video.

If you're unfamiliar with this nonsense.

Great news though. My copy of A Touch of Zen is awful quality and I'm pretty sure it is a bootleg.

Thanks for that. I wouldn't be so sure your Zen's a bootleg - even the legit releases were pretty awful. Looking forward to this although typically I only watched it a couple of months ago  .

As promised, I've had a quick look at the Zen disc and I'm impressed to a point. It does look like some remastering has been done, but there is still a bit of wear and tear showing. The good news is that it DOES come with removable subs (despite the back of the box saying Chinese subs only, and there being no English text anywhere on the product). The main difference seems to be much improved colouring. I've taken a couple of comparison shots between this and the Tai Seng disc:

The dark bits are still too dark for my liking, but an improvement on the Tai Seng disc. They even come in a nice little cardboard slipcase and include a diary booklet. I'm not going to view the film for the best part of a year now, but I'm a reasonably happy bunny...

Yes, thanks for reporting back! Though I will have to wait a while before I can pick any of these up. But they are ON THE LIST!

Letterbox? Meh! Haven't these fools ever heard of anamorphic?

Anamorphic progressive video with remastered (overhauled) English subtitles (for those English-speaking of course) would constitute a good DVD.

No doubt these are interlaced or PAL>NTSC with ghosting and the likes?
