Summary: 5/10 - mediocre wu xia

Chor Yuen churns out another wu xia film full of outlandish characters and unlikely plot twists, but doesn't seem to have been trying all that hard to make this one entertaining. It often looks quite lovely, and is pretty action-packed (though the quality of the action is inconsistent), but it comes across as a rather tired entry in the genre. Watchable, but there's much better out there.

Summary: Mediocre Shaw movie

This is an elegant Shaw production, shot on many of their sound stages. The problem is that the script is that script lacks any new ideas, and except for the double crossings, is of mediocre viewing. The fight scenes are well choreographed, but lack any real motivation or new ideas. I think that at the time this Shaw movie was made, HK movies was in it's renaissance to the new wave, as the old fake sets, primitive camera work, and the facts that the writers had to write movies around these old sets, outdated the production standards and frustrated the writer and director. Mediocre and boring. Nothing interesting to view here. Pai Piao makes a great villain, but he does nothing until the very end. Ti Lung is as professional as usual, but he seems disinterested and tired with the old primitive sets and the uninteresting script. **/*****

Teng Piao (Ti Lung) went to jail for fifteen years on a frame up for drug smuggling. Now that he's out, along with his iron chain, Teng Piao is hungry for revenge. The man he wants to beat with his chain is Black Leopard Lam Fei. The problem for Teng Piao is that he doesn't know who he is, only that he has a picture of a black leopard tattooed on his chest. Interesting movie dealing with intrigue and suspense. There is some good fighting and knife throwing, however, the ending is kind of weak in my book.
