Her Fatal Ways 3

Dodo Cheng plays Nan, a dedicated Mainland officer charged with providing security for a politician who is making a clandestine visit to Hong Kong.

Most of the running time is dominated by talk about the difference in culture between China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. As a westerner, this sort of stuff went over my head for the most part and I became a bit bored by the proceedings. The fact that several bits are regurgitated from the previous movie doesn't help matters, either.

Summary: Miss it

You'll either love or detest DoDo Cheng as the loud-mouthed and thick-headed mainlander, a kind-of mirror image of Stephen Chow. Well, I LOATHE her ! This film runs the full gamut from dull to irritating, and is only saved from being a complete waste of time by Anthony Wong's usual good performance, and Cheng's amusing but all-too-short stunt sequence near the end. Miss it without regret.

Summary: better than 'rocky 3'...

in this installment, cheng (dodo cheng) and sheng (alfred cheung) are asked to travel to hong kong to make security arrangements for the visit of chairman chien (michael lee). en route, they run into bad weather and their plane lands in taiwan. whilst there, inspector chiang (chan chung-yung) is there guide.

the pair then move on to hong kong, visiting the locations that chien will visit, aided by hong kong policeman, inspector lu (anthony wong). things seem to be going well, until chiang arrives from taiwan, with news that there's an assassin, planning on striking during chien's visit...

these aren't great films, but they are good solid, light-hearted comedies; they've got a great sense of fun and plenty of chuckles.

good stuff...

Crack Mainland Policewoman Cheng is given a top-secretassignment: to protect old Mr. Chien, a Communist Party Central Committee member in Hong Kong. The plane she takes is re-routed to Taiwan because of a storm. Her good looks and intelligence attracts Yung, a Taiwanese policeman. Finally, Cheng arrives in Hong Kong to liase with Inspector Lu of the Royal Hong Kong Police. Lu makes no secret that he strongly dislikes the Hong Kong and China political systems, and creates many problems for Cheng. Old Mr. Chien came to Hong Kong to see his boyhood lover. A tryst is arranged, but Taiwanese assassins learn of the plan and decide to kill Chien there. Yung rushes to Hong Kong to stop the killers but fails. Once again, of course, it is up to Cheng to save the day in her most fatal ways.
