BUT, TO TELL YOU ALL THE TRUTH, I LIKE THE SECOND ONE BETTER! THIS MOVIE IS ALL ABOUT THE ADVENTURES AND MISADVENTURES IN LIFE AND LOVE OF HIGH SCHOOLER JIMMY LIN WHO IS IN LOVE WITH THE MOST UNATTAINABLE GIRL AT SCHOOL (VIVIAN HSU), HAS A TOMBOY FOR A BEST FRIEND(HILARY TSUI), A CUTE, ADORABLE YET NAUGHTY LITTLE BOY FOR A BROTHER (KOK SIU MAN) AND A SHAOLIN TEMPLE MONK-TO-BE WHO IS A GREAT KUNG-FU FIGHTER FOR A NEW ACQUAINTANCE (SIK SIU LUNG)! WHAT A LIFE! I DON'T KNOW WHY DID I LIKE THIS FLICK, BUT I JUST REALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT! MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE OF JIMMY LIN OR THE TWO CUTE KIDS IN IT! THIS MOVIE IS ACTUALLY A CARBON COPY OF THE JOHN HUGHES TEEN ANGST MOVIE, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL. I MEAN, JUST LOOK AT THE ENDING - YOU'LL SEE WHAT I MEAN! BUT, ALL IN ALL, IT WAS A GREAT VIEWING EXPERIENCE FOR ME AND NO COMPLAINTS FROM MOI! :)

Reviewed by: jfierro Date: 12/21/1999 Jimmy Lin looks like he will be the next Aaron Kwok, showing absolutely no personality in his roles. Kok Siu-Man, while adorable, appears to have the brain of a peanut, incapable of even the simplest scenes. And Hilary Tsui, who I normally like, is relegated to a gutless female role. To top it all off, anyone who has seen a teen romance movie knows where this plot is going from the first few scenes. So why did I like this movie so much? Probably because director Chu Yin-Ping knows how to put together an entertaining movie. In this one, he references, steals, or parodies a wide range of movies from Jet Li's SHAOLIN TEMPLE to Robert Redford's THE NATURAL. Ignore the plot and acting, and just enjoy the throwaway jokes and slapstick comedy. And keep your eye on Sik Siu-Lung, the young martial arts prodigy who could give Tse Miu a run for his money when it comes to being cool.

Reviewed by: spinali Date: 12/08/1999 Summary: NULL This one's an almost cretinous mix of teenage romance and kung-fu goofiness. High-schooler Jimmy Lin has fallen for a real cutie; too bad she's already going out with a hulking bully who has no patience for Lin's overtures. Lin's stupidity is matched by his bad taste, because he can't see the overtures of his long-time platonic girlfriend (Hilary Tsui), a tomboy who's better looking than anybody else in the film. He eventually ends up going with his mom, pop, and mischevious little brother to China, where the two kids get lost and end up at a Shaolin monastery. They make friends with a toddler monk, and after complications too idiotic to enumerate (as if you weren't already bored to distraction), good triumphs over evil, with our little Shaolin Popey (whatever that means) ends up the big martial arts hero.
