Four Chefs and a Feast

Summary: A bit slow..but good.

This movie is not anywhere near as good as Eat Drink..or.. Chinese Feast..let alone.. God of Cookery! But, Wu Chien Lien & Jordan Chan are humourous throughout. Nice feel to the movie especially the "blind smell test" scene or Wu Chien Lien's Sesame syrup hiccup/vomit scenes!! She looks beautiful regardless, so how can you not like watching this?! Not Bad!

Summary: Four Chefs and a Feast (1999)

When first hearing the name 'Four Chefs and a Feast' and knowing that it's the Chinese New Year movie in PRC this year, it gives me the first impression if it's a movie like 'A Chinese Feast' (1994). It also looks like 'Eat Drink Men Women', may be it's due to the cast LONG Hung.

'Four Chefs and a Feast' started the story in a restaurant May Lung Chun in Shanghai run by FONG (KAM Si-kit). One day, a old guy LEE (LONG Hung) commented on the feast is substandard while the only way to improve is to get back the third generation of the tranditional combination -- FONG, LUNG (Jordan CHAN) who is running a snake shop in Hong Kong and MUI (WU Chien-lin) who just leaves from her elder sister because of a man. During the process of getting co-operation, they are not only learning to make a good feast but also give them some ideas about their life.

In terms of the plot, 'Four Chefs and a Feast' is okay. For the main flow of the whole story, it looks a bit old-fashioned. Maybe it's the most easiest way to elaborate the feast and the relationship. On the other hand, I consider the way the movie presents the relationship between different characters is quite fluent. One of the good things for the movie is that it is able to put up the relationship between the families of the four main casts in a clear way. Though most of the scens and the ending is almost predictable, some of the scenes can still make you impressed.

On the other hand, I think some of the points can be elaborate to make it more entertaining. One of the main thing for the movie is th food, it seems that the movie intended to tune down the tone of this focus. In terms of the movie, this should be more emphasize to make it more attractive or it would be hard to attract audience to watch.

In terms of the performance, I consider the performance of the four casts are okay. However, it seems that the cast is a bit too stereotyped. For example, LONG Hung is still acting in a role like a food critic. I consider he has the potential to act is a more energetic way. The movie has made use in some of the scenes like to guess the seasoning. I think the movie will be more interesting if they can make use of this tricks more in the movie.

In short, 'Four Chefs in a Feast' is a movie very fluent and it is able to describle the relatinoships between characters well. Though the plots seems to be all predictable, it is still a movie above average.
