Seven year old Xi-wa lives in a poor mountain village in Mainland China with his father and elder sister. His father could not afford schooling for both children. Against his best wishes, he marries out his daughter so he would have the money to put his son through school. As Xi-wa grows up, he becomes very smart, and decides to go to college to become a teacher. His father, now frail, falls one day and becomes paralyzed. While caring for his father, he recieves acceptance to college. Now Xi-wa must make the toughest decision of his life. (Ryan Miller) |
