| Also starred in a US action film in the early 1990s, under the name "Bruce Ly", with Lee Majors II.
Action star Yu Yang (b. 1949) studied acting at both the Shaw Brothers and Cathay Studio training courses, along with four years of Thai boxing instruction, before making his debut in The Bloody Fists (1972). Later that year he had his first starring role in Black List, the first in a number of kung-fu pictures over the following five years, as well as television series for TVB, Hong Kong's largest TV station. The year after completing The 36th Chamber of Shaolin 1977 for Shaw Brothers, Yu's career experienced a three-year hiatus when he temporarily moved to Canada. Upon returning in 1981, Yang rejoined TVB. During the subsequent two decades he has appeared mostly on television, in such blockbuster drama series as Kindred Spirit (1998). He also makes the occasional film, including Missed Date 1986 with Chow Yun Fat, and Needing You (2000) with Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng.
