Summary: Wipe Out (1998)
I'm sure most of you haven't heard this movie if I didn't mention it. In fact, I consider this movie won't be showing in Hong Kong if '[movie]9413[/movie]' (1998) is not so successful. Maybe they put it up selling for Francis NG and Christine ENG. One of the surprises is that the release date of its legitimate VCD is on the same date as its opening date.

'Wipe Out' is a movie based on real experienced. HONG Kei was killed when he is having his trip in the mainland. HONG has got a very bad record when he is in Hong Kong and Inspector CHAN (Francis NG) is investigating him. His death case is investigated by Inspector SUEN. At the surface, it seems that the whole process of investigation is very smooth. But they don't know that they have been trapped and veiled the reality.

It seems that the case investigation idea comes from Hollywood movie 'Seven' (1995). In fact, when we watch the movie, I expect that they will put the invesitgation as the main selling point or they won't put up such movie title.

In terms of the plot, I consider the story should be interesting and you should have been enjoyed in the investigation. Unfortunately, 'Wipe Out' failed to give you such feeling. The main problem is that the plot has been written badly! In terms of dialogue, the Written Chinese style Cantonese has made audience feel uncomfortable when watching. Together with the sudden edit, sometimes you find it hard to understand. This greatly affects the overall performance of the movie. 'Wipe Out' is a movie to put a complex murder in 90 minutes' context, I expect it should be able to put issues clearly.

Another point that makes the movie hard to swollow is its inaccurate tone of expressions. Some of them are too typical and makes audience consider they've been cheated. One of the obvious example is that when HONG Lai (Christine NG) was invited to go to the police station to meet Inspector SHEN about the insurance, the whole scene is totally predictable. The slow pace facial expression and burst into tears annoys audience.

Another problem of the movie is that the edit and the cinematography are all sub-standard. Most of the time the film is too dark while it's not during night time. This makes audience feel sleepy after watching for 30-40 minutes.

In terms of performance, I consider Francis NG is okay but I prefer to his other movies. I consider it's not proper to comment on Christine ENG.

On the whole, 'Wipe Out' has got a great idea but poor in presentation, I'm sorry that this makes the movie sub-standard.
