Help!!! (2000)

Summary: Funny but dull plot.
"Help!!!" is a movie like ER, however, it's in Chinese and not quite serious but rather, funny.

I found the director had inputed many good comedic moments in the movie which delivered a good result. Compare this movie with stuff that "Wong Jing" released (mostly regarding his directions on gore/grossy jokes), I found this one better, at least all jokes are clean here.

With that said, let's look further to the plot itself. The plot is basicly simple and predictable, however, that doesn't mean good. As I mentioned "simple" which means that there are not much exciting moments (besides the surprise ending) in the plot resulting a dull effect. In other words, if this movie would have to put into a serious mode (without the comedic parts), I doubt much people will want to see it unless someone in the cast interested them.

As to the performances, the only actor I found who is suitable to work in this movie was Cecilia Cheung. It's because she matched the 20-something innocent look in her character. As to other stars like Jordan Chan and Dior Cheng were at their acting standard but not necessary needing them to be starred in this movie. They were just a waste in their roles, therefore, no surprising/impressive actings by them. Other supporting actors/actresses were at their best acting skills I found, maybe it's because of their roles in the movie. Compare those actors in the main cast with the supporting cast, I found the supporting cast more interesting.

Overall, though this movie had a supportive setting (nice hospital), sound effects, and great cast, it didn't deliver a good result to the auidence besides fun moments. If I were to rate this movie in genre, I will put it striaght to "Comedy" and not "Drama" because it's basicly funny to enjoy. If you are expected to see this movie in a dramatic mode, you are at the wrong place since there ain't much plot to tell here.
