The Crazy Companies (1988)

Summary: Surprisingly good!
The Crazy Companies is really one of those typical 80's comedy movies, but actually comes off rather good! The story is of a man working in New York (Andy Lau) who find out his father has died in Hong Kong and has left his company to him and his other son. He sets off back to Hong Kong, but his brother is not interested in sharing the wealth with Andy and plots to get rid of him.

He gets 3 of his workers (Stanley Fung, Idy Chan and Nat Chan) to make Andy look bad. However, after a lot of fooling around they become good friends and decide to help Andy in the end.
Chingmy Yau is the love interest in this movie, which is actually her first main acting part in a movie, and her acting comes off very well as a shy girl.

The story does seem to jump in a few places making some scenes a bit confusing, but generally it's very enjoyable. I don't usually say this about many Wong Jing movies, but this one has got to be one of his better ones.

I would compare this movie to that of Diary Of A Big Man, BB30 and also the Lucky Stars movies as some of the usual cast are here. I would have rated it a bit higher if the story had been put together a bit better.

Rating (of 5): 3

(This rating is based on the year & genre, so don't think it's based as a comparison on new releases etc.)
