Very nice-looking, beautifully shot but ultimately hollow period drama about a young man whose drinking habit causes disaster for his family and himself. Sonny Chiba plays the father, and Gigi Lai the suffering bride. Despite the title, this is not a swordplay movie, but a drama, and not a very convincing one at that. It's all style over substance, and reminded me a lot of Andrew Lau titles like THE DUEL. There is one swordfight at the end of the movie, which is well-done (if you like CGI-enhanced swordplay), but overall, this movie is pretty forgettable.
