Story of a Bride, is exactly what the title says. It a light drama about a poor mentally disabled women (Sylvia Chang) in Taiwan, who meets a policeman (Hui Bat Liu). She is this way ever since her husband died and she had a breakdown. The story basically shows the couple dealing with problems, but when together all troubles seem far away. Its a little like Why Me and Beloved Son Of God.
Its hardly an original concept, and some of the comedy is a bit stupid, but all in all its actually highly enjoyable. Sylvia Chang plays her character perfectly, as a mentally disabled girl. Its also worth mentioning the little girl in this, as she does an excellent job of the womans daughter, even though she looks about only 5 years old, she does an excellent job. I dont know who she is, but I hope she has gone on to act more, because she has potential for sure. The music is also well done, and the mood fits around the settings perfectly.
The Taiwan backgrounds look very nice, making a good setting for a film like this. Though the quality of the film is quite bad, well the VCD version is, its also dubbed in Cantonese, which is a shame. If you are able to find the original Mandarin version, then I would highly recommend it if you like light dramas.
