Happy Go Lucky (2003)

Aiming to be an uplifting, sentimental tale of three characters overcoming adversity, this film ends up somewhere between silly and offensive.

Kent Cheng plays a semi-retarded delivery boy who befriends a spastic office worker and a blind girl (played by Gillian Chung Yan Tung, one half of pop duo The Twins). His naive optimism and happy nature proves contagious and the three characters make the best of their respective handicaps, until the unexpected results of a medicaql operation force one of them to reevaluate what was formerly perceived to be happiness. Will they get through these trite tribulations? Will there be a happy end? Does anyone care?

Apparently shot on a TV-movie budget, this slight film tries hard to be charming and life-affirming, but is marred by the worst sort of "handicap" acting I've seen in a long time. Combined with the syrupy feel-good message underneath the plot, this movie ends up playing like a mix between Rainman and a Disney Family hour show.

Not recommended.
