Summary: Sugar-Induced Coma
How many movies can you name with Louis Koo playing a smarmy cad? Once again Louis Koo plays the one-dimensional leading man, with the ever present George Hamilton tan, in the romantic comedy "Why Me, Sweetie?!" Cherrie Ying plays a student studying acting in Beijing University, while Koo is a bakery owner. The two meet and begin a relationship, but Koo has a short-term memory disorder that prevents their relationship from fully developing.

"Why Me, Sweetie?!" begins rather abruptly with sitcom character development and little realism. Jingle Ma replaces realism with make-believe foolishness that could only be possible in a teenager's fantasy. The sugar coating is so sickly sweet that it takes a while to regain any sense of authenticity or earnestness.

Cherrie Ying has come along way in such a short time in her movie career, and her efforts in this movie make the second half palatable. She really gets to work on her acting chops and is able to produce some teary emotions to the tune of multiple hankies. Ying's performce grounds the film and saves "Why Me, Sweetie?!" from falling into a sugar-induced coma.
