Based on a novel by Szu Ma. This flick takes place during a time in China when feudal lords ruled. Amongst the feudal lords themselves, killing was just an everyday event and was a means to take over the next feudal lords properties. One man, Wu Dai Shu (Kao Chiang), had his whole family wiped out at a drop of dime. In order to avenge the death of his family, Master Wu aligns himself with another feudal lord named Kwang (Danny Lee) so that he can gain an army to attack his killers. Kwang obliges that he will help Master Wu get an army under one condition. Wu must help him gain power of the throne and the only way to do this is by assassinating the current Duke (played by Wang Ching). Seems easy? To assassinate the Duke, Wu and Kwang trick a righteous swordsman named Kwan Chu (David Chiang) into thinking that he is in debt to them for covering his tail in a spat with the Duke’s right hand man, Gwai Yu (Cho Boon Feng), over his future wife (played by Shih Szu). Kwan Chu vows to die for his two new friends as he is indebted to them and then takes on the task of assassinating the Duke. With friends like Kwang and Wu, who needs enemies?
