Edit: My mate came round and built me a new PC. My research seems to be in tact, which was a worry. Everything needs re-installing which will take a bit of time and there's a few things to tweak for convenience, but overall it seems great, running super fast compared to before. The only issue is that he neglected to inform me that my bookmarks wouldn't be saved, so I've lost some links. Fortunately most were pages I'd pretty much mined for all the info from except a few possible means of contact (maybe dead though anyway). But I can probably find most (if not all) again, so thankfully it's more of an inconvenience than a tragedy.
As I mentioned in my Jun Chong KUP, this is my last big update for a bit, while I take a break. I'll probably end up doing a few bits here and there (as I can't seem to help myself ) but all my bigger projects are getting put on hold for now.
Edit: One thing I actually forgot to mention was that I updated a couple of his student's pages: I added J.J. Perry's DOB, gender and a single pic from Enter The Eagles [1998]; and for Mark I added his nationality, DOB and a few aliases.
Well, this film was a bit of a nightmare. Firstly, there's the footage quality that I mentioned on my Jun Chong update, which was bad enough for one actor, but since I seem to enjoy torturing myself, I decided I might as well do the entire cast....but that's also where the second issue comes in.
The second issue is the cast. The English credits are complete nonsense. Even Jun Chong is credited as Bruce K.L. Lea to play the old Bruceploitation card. I believe most of the names on the Korean poster are also false. I am confident the Hangul credits on the film print are accurate, but become a bit awkward when it comes to the names of the US actors.
Most are pretty straight forward, but there are a couple that make things tricky, I believe even the KMDB might've fell for a trap. The names of different actors on a Korean film's credits are often separated by an interpunct “·” , and this rule is applied to most of the credits here, but the issue comes in with 데비·데보라 and 빅짐·가하나왕 . I agree with the KMDB that 데비 데보라 (Debbie Deborah) are for one person, Deborah Dutch. But the second case 빅짐 가하나왕 (Big Jim Kahanawang) might be two people, Big Jim and Kahana Wang.
If I'm wrong, it means that the “white man” (on the English dub) is the only villain that's uncredited, which would be a bit odd considering there's not many other people in the film; the film makes a big deal about these characters; and in the publicity stills they often show all of them too, so it seems more likely that he'd get a credit than not. But I think that instead of being a “white man” he might be mixed race, which might explain why in the film he shows up in full Manchu robes, which is a bit odd. It might be the black guy's credit is just Big Jim and the other other guy's name is Kahana Wang, maybe an Asian father and Jewish mother? Whereas, if it it is Big Jim Kahanawang, I'm not sure what real name Kahanawang could be a transliteration of.
So for now I'm crediting them as two separate people, but it's definitely not set in stone and could be either way. Also, I've heard rumours of a possible HD version in the works (I could've done with that ), perhaps there'll be some info there that might solve this matter once and for all.
Speaking of credits, there is another matter; both Steve Mak Fei-hung and even Hwang Jeong-ri were given a credit!? I think someone copied them from IMDB. Steve Mak is a bit more understandable as there is a Steve Mak in the bogus Eng credits, but I've no idea where Hwang Jeong-ri has come from. Unless there's another even stranger version of the film I've not seen, they are not in it. To give IMDB a bit of credit though, they did add the Rhee brothers to the cast, maybe they saw the same interview that I did. I've also removed Anthony Bronson, a name from the false Eng credits that was probably a pseudonym for Kim Moon-joo.
So Jun Chong; Deborah Dutch; Kim Moon-joo; Bae Soo-cheon; and Sho Kosugi were already credited, but there were no portraits yet. The rest of the cast I created new pages for.
