I've actually got a bunch of those classic "Red Movies" as they're called on the package. Some absolutely fascinating stuff, there. Stifling, but fascinating.

I have a few, too. I like Eight Women Die a Martyr. Talk about Girls With Guns. Even has some character development which a lot of them don't bother with.

I've heard some wild things about EIGHT WOMEN, which is in my stack. In fact, every time I watch one of the Red Movies, I'm that much more stoked to get my hands on some North Korean movies someday. Good ones too, the kind that wear their brainwashing on their immaculately tailored soldier sleeves. I can only hope good quality stuff starts to appear before I'm 90! But then again, I don't imagine too many North Koreans have DVD players. Or DVDs rental shops. Or DVDs. Well, one of them does, that's for sure, but I'm told he's rather fond of western cinema.

Apropos of nothing, I just watched a movie called PAULINE'S LIFE, a dull slog through the last crazy weeks in the life of Pauline Chan, who killed herself in 2002. In trying to find more info on this film (of which there is little), I came across an ATV series called LEGEND: A DREAM OF DESIRE, in which Alice Chan, who we were discussing above, played a beauty pageant loser named Pauline who is signed into Category III films by her mother (I think this series aired before Pauline's death, but I'm sure it didn't help her mental state any!). Interestingly, in the sequel to this series, LEGEND 2, Alice Chan plays....Anita Mui. So if the Anita Mui biopic is indeed a big screen affair, it looks like they've chosen an actress with some history in the part.
