You know, I get kinda sick of reading about this guy, even though he has—via these remarkably inferior remakes, including THE DEPARTED—raised the awareness of Asian cinema in general, even if it is largely in the sense that it simply exists as opposed to a marked increase in people seeking it out. There's just something that bugs me about phrases like this, that make it seem like no one else could possibly source out remake material but Roy Lee and his "Asian sensibilities":

Hollywood studios rely on Lee’s Asian sensibility and network to find Asian movies suitable for remakes. He has had a hand in introducing almost all Asian horror movies that found an enthusiastic audience in the U.S.


Lee must be ferociously protective of his lucky position, considering how ephemeral it could easily be if people at the big studios actually realized how easily they could do what he does without the "middleman."
