Gong Li suggests China carry out film ratings
http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/?i ... e=National
CHINESE film star Gong Li, who is also a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, has said she will submit a proposal to China's top political advisory body to establish a film rating system to protect children.
Gong said on Saturday that a lot of films contain violence, but they are viewable to children by simply buying cinema tickets. She said an age limitation should be set up for those movies, and only people who have valid ID cards should be allowed to watch them, the Beijing Times reported today.
Peng Fuchun, a professor in Wuhan University and a delegate of the National People's Congress, said on Saturday that a film rating system is a useful method to stop the spread of a violent culture among children.
Tong Gang, director of the film bureau of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, said the film classification system might be written into the draft of the Film Promotion Law.
The draft will reportedly be reviewed by the National People's Congress in the near future.

Chin Ka Lok will be action director for Malaysia's first martial arts film
PETALING JAYA: Seasoned Hong Kong action choreographer Chin Ka Lok, who has worked with some of Asia’s greatest action stars like Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan, will be working with Malaysian martial arts experts soon as the action director for the country's first ever martial arts movie – Kinta 1881.
Set in pre-Merdeka Perak, when gang wars were common among rival tin mining colonies, the film is directed by C.L. Hor (The Third Generation) and stars former world wushu champion Ho Robin with three other national wushu exponents including Michael Chin, Kuan Fei and Shawn Lee; and world champion taichi exponent David Bao from China.
Chin, who began working as a stuntman at the age of 16, is a former member of Hong Kong stunt and kungfu maestro Sammo Hung's team, and used to stand-in as a stunt double for international action superstar Jackie Chan.
He has previously acted in movies like Full Throttle, My Kung Fu Sweetheart as well as Chan’s Thunderbolt and Drunken Master II.
As an action choreographer, Chin has garnered nominations in the best action
choreography categories at the 2005 Golden Horse and the Hong Kong Film Awards for his work on the triad drama One Nite in Mongkok.
According to Hor, Chin has already met all the actors and will soon be in Malaysia to finalise the location and the set-up, as well as plan the action sequences.
“We spent half a year researching and scouting for the right choreographer, and we are happy to get Chin on board,” he said.
Filming of Kinta 1881 is set to begin next month, with November as the tentative release date.
It is the first film to be made under the newly-formed film production company Absolutely Black, a collaboration between Hor’s Blackbox Pictures and event management company CMG Absolute.

Sammo Hung to direct The KL Samurai
ALOR STAR: An international film directed by Hong Kong's action star Sammo Hung will be shot in Kedah.
The KL Samurai will star local actors Fasha Sandha, Amber Chia, Fahrin Ahmad and Rashid Salleh as well as Hollywood's Ken Watanabe.
The film, which will be produced by a local company, depicts the Japanese occupation of the country during World War II.
The film's project director Rashidah Hashim said it would be based on the historical facts of the Japanese occupation of Malaya between 1941 and 1945.
“The content of the film will be packaged in accordance with international standards so that it’s suitable for viewers worldwide, particularly those keen on corporate development in Malaysia as well as the “Samurai” art of self-defence,” she told reporters here.
The first international film to be produced by Corporate Resolute Sdn Bhd is scheduled for shooting next month. – Bernama
