Tsai: 'I think I will be making another appeal'
PETALING JAYA: In a change of heart, the National Film Censorship Board has approved Tsai Ming-liang’s film, I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone for limited screening.

Producer Leonard Tee said he received a letter from the board's appeals committee at 4.22pm on Thursday.

He said the film was passed for limited screenings in art house cinemas in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. The committee also asked for five cuts to be made.

A source told The Star that the cuts included scenes showing the bare buttocks of lead actor Lee Kang-sheng and local actor Norman Atun washing his underwear.

Other snips involved a kissing scene between Lee and actress Chen Shiang-chyi, Norman helping to clean a badly injured Lee who is clad only in his underwear and a radio broadcast reporting open burning in Putrajaya.

Tee said the filmmaker is currently promoting the film in Taiwan.

Contacted in Kaohsiung, Tsai said he was happy that the ban had been reversed. However, he has not decided whether or not to accept the conditions.

“I think I’ll be making another appeal. And I hope the committee will invite me back so that we can sit down face-to-face and discuss things.”

I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone premiered at the Venice International Film Festival last year and was originally slated to be released at Cathay Cineleisure here.

Chalrene Choi and fake size increase

Charlene and Jim Chim were in Central to try out scenes for "King of Plays." Charlene wore a pair of fake breasts and became a D cup size beauty, but she's not enjoying the big breasts and was trying to hide from the reporters' cameras.

Charlene acts as a porn star in the movie, the character's design is based on Shu Qi according to some sources, so Charlene had to wear D cup fake breasts and speak in not very good Cantonese. She was obviously not accustomed to the size and was wearing her jacket to hide them. Reporters told her to take off her jacket for some pictures, but it took a while to persuade her and she was only willing to take pictures if Jim was in them too.

Charlene will have photo albums released in the movie, so the film company made a few just for that purpose, using computers to put her head so some big proportioned girls. She laughed, "The crew was great, because there's a scene where the photo album's pages would be thrown and scattered about, the crew picked up every last page. If someone walked by and put it online, I wouldn't know what to do, but I'm going to ask the producer to give me one to keep."

Yesterday was Ronald's birthday, but rumored girlfriend Charlene didn't have time to celebrate with him. From the night before, Charlene was busy filming "King of Plays" until morning, then immediately went home to pack, then flew to Shanghai to start working on "Slam Dunk," a very tight schedule indeed.

What is it with Patrick Tse and his big honkin' sunglasses? Not only does he seem to be wearing those ones or others in every papparazzi pic he turns up in, he's worn them on screen in his last handful of films. Vanity issue, perhaps? :?

What's it to ya, punk?

In a recent old magazine on eBay, he said he wore them because it made him more mysterious, and, hence, cool.
