From the Variety review:

They now have a fond relationship, but mom later reflects Korean attitudes when she offhandedly admits, "I'll always feel like a sinner for giving you up."

In trying to trace his own birth mother, In-Soo runs into a frustrating bureaucratic "wall of shame" intended to protect parents' anonymity. Even decades later, revelation that a woman had once given birth out of wedlock could destroy her reputation and current family circumstances.

I've been reading a few articles on this documentary lately and would really love to see it. I find it fascinating that so many Korean documentarians who delve into their own culture run up against these same attitudes: THE GRACE LEE PROJECT, MUDANG: RECONCILIATION BETWEEN THE LIVING & THE DEAD and SCENES FROM A CORNER STORE all touch on issues of religion and denial/saving face in one way or another, and there's another recent one, simply called UMMA, that supposedly takes the cake. My girlfriend has shared some insight with me over the years, but seeing such emotions played out on screen can be both heartbreaking and repellant at the same time.

Interesting article.

Sort of off-topic, but as a regular leisure day-traveller to Michigan when I used to live on the border (mainly the Port Huron-to-Detroit corridor, as well as Frankenmuth/Birch Run, Sterling Heights/Utica and Novi) I've always wondered if there was a Chinatown or other such Asian enclave that I was perhaps missing during my trips due to my tendency to stick to familiar places. As I still cross the border on my visits home, I was wondering if you have any tips, Ed.
