One night with Deanie Ip
VETERAN Hong Kong actress and singer Deanie Ip will be at Genting Highlands’ Arena Of Stars at 8pm on May 12.
Her one-night concert is themed Deanie Ip Melodic Encounter 2007 Live In Genting.
Ip, who was born on Christmas Day in 1947, is a two-time Hong Kong Film Awards winner for Best Supporting Actress.
She won the award for the films Dances With Dragons in 1991 and My Name Ain’t Suzy in 1985.
She has also been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Wrong Wedding Trail (1984), Spiritual Love (1987) and Murder (1983).
She has also won Best Supporting Actress at the 36th Golden Horse Awards for the film Crying Heart.
Most of her roles are those of tough and independent women, whom viewers easily sympathise with.
One of her most notable screen partners is Hong Kong actor and singer Andy Lau Tak Wah.
Her signature husky voice has been a hit among fans in Hong Kong and various Asian countries.
Ip launched five albums in the first half of the 1980s, but retired from the music industry in 1988.
This, however, did not stop her from making occasional film appearances.
She returned to the Cantopop scene in 2002 with an EP and a live concert.
Although she is a seasoned entertainer, she has also worked closely with many of her juniors in the Hong Kong music industry, most notably with Andy Hui Chi On.
Ip will sing her evergreen hits such as Cheen Guo Tai Yong, Hung Wun See Ngoh and Ngo Yiu in the concert.
