Boy, now I know the answer to my question the other day about the Taiwanese justice system. It doesn't sound much different than it does over here: play the "depression" card and who knows how easy you'll get off, especially if the worst case scenario is "compensation" and a piddly two-year sentence for robbing a child of his mother.
