Here's a couple more:

...and, in case anyone's in the area this summer:

Indeed!

Although Angus Reid, a major polling company honcho up here who's quoted in the story, is a bit ridiculous when he notes "that surveys consistently show British Columbians are far more likely to see themselves as an Asia-Pacific city than Torontonians." Considering Toronto is about a zillion miles from the Pacific, it's highly unlikely that such a survey ever took place.

Incidentally, Vivienne Poy, who's also quoted in the story, was the first Asian senator in the country, and her sister-in-law, Adrienne Clarkson, was the country's first Asian (and second female) Governor General, from 99-05. Frankly, though, the position is really one of those questionable holdovers from colonial days, something Canada and Hong Kong certainly have in common.

And since I'm snobbishly partial to Toronto because I live here, I'm fairly certain this area—which encompasses at least 10 full blown cities within the "Greater Toronto Area"—has a larger Asian/Chinese population, but it's not as dense as Vancouver's, which gives them the glow when it comes time to write stories like this. The bums... :P
