This item has appeared in most of the local media around here, and now that it has a local "flavour" I really see the PR nature of the whole exercies. The police in Toronto (and probably most other cities these dogs have visited) know exactly where to go in this town to confiscate thousands of bootleg DVDs, CD, what have you, and that's just what they've done on many occasions. The stuff isn't exactly hidden from public view! They arrest a few people, close down a couple of mall shops, trace the distribution chain back to a few homes and the network suffers a teensy setback for a few days, literally. Police organizations taking part in this doggie publicity tour can't possibly think they're scaring anyone out of a very lucrative business. Surely they need a harder, and larger, crackdown, beyond a couple of dogs that can confirm what they already know just from looking at the packaging! :D
