Under the shadow of Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Twin Towers, love Malaysian style comes with a distinctly sudsy feel in multi-strand meller “Cinta.” Ensembler covers a wide economic and social cross-section of Malaysian metropolitan society, but stylistically pic bears the influence of the Hindi fare that is well-supported in the region. Released in Kuala Lumpur last November, film, unlike the Malaysian arty angst that proliferates on the fest circuit, has commercial prospects across Southeast Asia where melodrama thrives.

From media moguls to distraught provincial visitors, everyone gets to feel the pain and joy of amour in this romanticized and overlong slice of contempo Kuala Lumpur life. Five strands tend to converge at various locations, like a local Laksa restaurant and later at a major hospital, but otherwise yarns remain independent of each other.

Syrupy pop music swells at the drop of a durian, but always supporting rather than overwhelming proceedings. Mumbaitrained helmer Kabir Bhatia tends to overuse his gliding camera technique, but is otherwise proficient.

HD lensing transfer to 35mm appeared a little soft. All other tech credits are pro. Title is the Malay word for “love.”

Popular Hongkong actress Lydia Shum, has been rushed to hospital after collapsing at her Kowloon Tong home. Her condition is not yet known. The actress - who has been treated for liver cancer - has starred in numerous Hongkong television shows and movies.

After visiting his ex-wife, Adam Cheng told the press that Lydia Shum is now conscious, not able to talk yet and need machine to assist the breathing. He also quoted what the doctor said that Lydia's current condition is stable.

Doctors were last night keeping a round-the-clock vigil over actress Lydia Shum Din-ha who was rushed to hospital after collapsing at her Kowloon Tong residence yesterday morning.

Doctors were last night keeping a round-the-clock vigil over actress Lydia Shum Din-ha who was rushed to hospital after collapsing at her Kowloon Tong residence yesterday morning.

The 60-year-old Shum, also known as "Fei Fei" because of her size, has been suffering from liver tumors and bile duct cancer.

Her former husband, Adam Cheng Siu-chow, said she was in a "stable condition" but her official condition is unknown.

Shum was semi-conscious and wearing an oxygen mask when she arrived at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance around 10.30am.

She was accompanied by her aspiring singer daughter Joyce Cheng Yan-yee and the wife of late director Chang Cheh.

Sources said Shum suffered from pleural effusion, a complication of liver cancer. Both Cheng and Shum's attending doctor refused to comment on her condition.

Shum spent two hours in the emergency room at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The hospital had to separate an area for reporters along the emergency room corridor.

When Shum was wheeled out at 1.15pm, she was surrounded by approximately 100 reporters. Hospital workers then shielded her with white bedsheets.

Shum was transferred to Queen Mary Hospital around 1.30pm where her attending doctor and more than 100 reporters were waiting.

It took police 10 minutes to clear a way for her to enter the emergency room.

At 3pm, she was moved from the emergency room to the intensive care unit.

Cheng paid Shum a visit at 5pm. He said she was conscious and had nodded to him.

However, she was still hooked up to oxygen and could not speak.

Shum has been suffering from cholangitis, diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure for a long time.

In 2006 she received a cholelithotomy to extract 32 gallstones.

Last year she was diagnosed with liver tumors and bile duct cancer.

Her daughter dropped out from school in Canada and returned to Hong Kong to be with her.

Shum stayed at Queen Mary Hospital for a month in September last year after an eight-hour long operation to remove one-third of her liver.

There have been numerous reports over the past year claiming Shum was terminally ill, reports which Shum and her family have firmly denied.

Patients suffering from bile duct cancer are normally advised to stay away from crowded areas and to follow a strict diet in order to avoid infections and complications.

However, Shum was recently photographed shopping, enjoying seafood and watching her daughter filming a music video.

Seriuosly, they couldn't find any other way to get her into the hospital besides through a gauntlet of screaming photographers? I can understand them swarming around outside, but inside?

You know, I really don't wanna think that was staged....

I think the video was taken when she was transferred to the second hospital after the initial emergency room visit. So, the paparazzi would have had more notice I suppose.

Yes, it's taken when she was transferred from Queen Elizabeth Hospital to Queen Mary Hospital.
