Nice find, Ed.

Hopefully history won't repeat itself, but it'll be difficult not to expect some . . . digressions . . . during the upcoming games.

I gotta admit, the myopic "four part Olympic cheer" outlined in the Variety article gave me a case of fish-eye. I sincerely hope we'll see Chinese spectators doing their own thing once in a while when the cameras pan the crowds. Plenty of sport fans the world over seem quite capable of whipping up cheers on their own when enough of 'em are gathered together, but to issue a manual created by no less than three government agencies . . . :?

I've heard that some really great work has been done by the Communist Party's Office of Spiritual Civilization Development & Guidance
