(6/9/2008) The office of the Hong Kong baseball team starred CITY
WITHOUT BASEBALL (MO YEH JI SING) director Scud (Wan Yu) earlier was
vandalized. Aside from the film poster outside being torn, the glass on
the door was also shattered.
Later Scud has already contacted the police. He suspected that
the cause of the vandalism may have to do with two of the film's stars
and Hong Kong baseball team members Leung Yu Chung and Heung Chi Chun
appeared on a radio program that examines homosexuality. Leung made some
personal comments that riled up the some in the gay community. Scud
expressed willingness to appear on the program and clarify the
misunderstanding.
Leung Yu Chung honestly said, "Perhaps because on the program I
admitted to be 'homophobic' some weren't comfortable to hear that.
However that is just my personal opinion, the situation is like a girl's
fear of running into a sex attacker. I won't change my opinion, Hong Kong
has freedom of speech."
(6/5/2008) Jackie Chan has learned that 20 Mainland companies would be
interested in a disaster relief film but he would like to ask everyone to
gather their strength to make two or three of the most exciting films.
Otherwise the story will easily repeat. When the 20th one arrives, no one
conceivably will want to watch anymore. Jackie Chan also said that he had
no interest in directing or casting. He said that such a movie will take
at least a year and a half to two years to make. Thus if the market will
have 40 some films they will be meaningless.
* (6/11/2008) The annual Taiwan Golden Horse Award will take place on
December 6 in Taichung. Earlier a Democratic Progressive Party
council member did not welcome Jackie Chan's attendance due to his
2004 comment of "Taiwan Presidential Election is a joke". Earlier the
Taichung city government met over the Golden Horse Award fund allocation
application and Big Brother Jackie Chan was one of the subjects. When the
city council discussed the city government's suggestion to add NT$20
million as the Golden Horse award budget it added a condition to suggest
keeping Jackie Chan from attending. One of the council person who
suggested "throwing eggs at Jackie Chan" suggested rejecting the
application and the award could raise fund from rich business people like
Terry Kuo.
Another council member expressed that currently most Golden Horse
Award winners were Hong Kong films, the ceremony itself did not help
Taiwan films, and suggested a stop to the event. However, some
Kuomingtung council members also supported Jackie Chan and felt that
Jackie Chan's comments 4 years ago were very correct so he did not need to
apologize. Taichung mayor Jason Hu felt that politics should not
interfere with art and art should be given the largest space. The Golden
Horse Award comittee would decide whether Jackie Chan would attend and
the city government would respect the decision. The Golden Horse chief
secretary was very surprised to hear the anti Jackie Chan sentiment from
the Taichung city council, as last month the chief has personally invited
Jackie Chan to attend at the Cannes Film Festival and Jackie Chan would
gladly attend if his schedule permitted.
The JC Group issued a statement in Taipei yesterday. "No matter
what, Jackie Chan cares about Taiwan. His motivation for chairty work
and community service for service is as it has always been. Would the
media please stop coordinating ugly photos, misleading the meaning of
his comments and twisting Jackie Chan's original intent? Thank you!"
